About the Lucy Boyle Memorial Fund

A memorial fund in honor of Lucy Boyle, the thirteen year old daughter of Tim and Deborah Boyle, who passed away on march 30, 2015 has been established at the National Bank of South Carolina (NBSC) on Daniel Island.

Daniel Island, SC – Tim Boyle, the highly regarded branch manager of the Daniel Island Library, has been the “go to” information resource specialist on a variety of subjects since the branch’s opening in 2007.  When Tim’s thirteen year old daughter, Lucy, passed away March 30, 2015, the customers of the Daniel Island Library and the staff of the Berkeley County Library all mourned for his loss.

Mr. John Gilsenan, a long-time supporter of the library on the Island and tireless advocate for the creation of a fitting memorial to honor Lucy Boyle, stated, “Every library user on Daniel Island knows Tim Boyle.  He is the Answer Man on Duty at all times for all of us.  Tim always comes through. When Lucy became ill and unexpectedly died last March, we all knew it was time to come through for him, for Mrs. Boyle and their surviving daughter as well.”

Discussions between library employees and community residents, including John Gilsenan, retired, Pat Richards, Chair of the Library Board, Councilman Josh Whitley, and Donna Worden, The Berkeley County Library System Director, resulted in the fund to purchase books on topics that Lucy loved, including math, science, computer coding, and other STEM related topics. The library will house the books in the Daniel Island Library and loan them out across the library system.

When asked about the establishment of a memorial fund to honor Lucy, Tim commented, “Deborah and I are gladdened and grateful that the community has come together to memorialize our dear daughter Lucy.  The library was one of her favorite places, and we hope her spirit will live on here.”

The Lucy Boyle Memorial Fund has been set up at NBSC. Cash or check donations may be made by: dropping by any NBSC location; by mailing a check, made out to Lucy Boyle Memorial Fund, to NBSC, 230 Seven Farms Drive, Suite 100, Daniel Island, SC 29492; or, placing a donation in the easily identified memorial fund donation box in the Daniel Island Library.
