Friends of BCLS Annual Meeting Guest Speaker, Susan Kammeraad-Campbell with Joggling Board Press

The Friends of the Berkeley County Library System are pleased to invite residents of Berkeley County to their Annual Meeting on Thursday, Nov. 10th, at 7 pm in the Moncks Corner Library. This year’s annual event will begin with a short meeting for Friends members to will vote on a few new board members. Following the brief meeting, attendees are invited to stay for a reception catered by The Corner Cafe’ and discussion with special guest speaker, Susan Kammeraad-Campbell, from Charleston’s own Joggling Board Press. The annual meeting is open to the public, however the Friends kindly ask for you to RSVP by completing the form below or by emailing FOBCLS@gmail.com.

won its seventh national award. Her book, Doc: The Story of Dennis Littky and His Fight for a Better School (now in its third printing) became an NBC movie of the week called “A Town Torn Apart.”

As a journalist, she worked for United Press International, and for newspapers in the Midwest and New Hampshire. She has served as a news reporter, dance critic, theater critic and editorial writer. For five years, she served as director of publications for the Medical University of South Carolina. She has edited and published more than 30 books of fiction and non-fiction, most of which have garnered regional and national awards.

Kammeraad-Campbell is the creator of Storyboard America, a national initiative that guides people to write, audio record and share moments of their lives that matter. The initiative is being piloted in South Carolina for broadcast on S.C. Public Radio with support from a major grant from the S.C. Humanities Council.

Sharon Kemfort
Vice President Nominee
Sharon, a long-time resident of Moncks Corner, worked at Navy Exchanges and for the Moncks Corner Post Office. Now retired, she enjoys time with family and also helping the Friends of the Library (FOL). Currently, she upkeeps the FOL bookshelves at the Moncks Corner Library.

Ruby Middleton
Board Member Nominee
Ruby, a 2010 graduate of Charleston Southern University, is a lifelong resident of Moncks Corner. While growing up, the Moncks Corner library was Ruby’s sanctuary. When asked about being a part of the Friends of the Berkeley County Library, she knew this was where she belonged. She became a member in 2012. She currently works at Berkeley County Government, as she has for the past five years, as an HR Admin Specialist.

Karin O’Callaghan
Board Member Nominee
Karin, a Vanderbilt University graduate, has had a varied professional career. She has worked in marketing, public relations, and other dynamic departments. While working as the librarian for Washington and Lee University Library, she and a university librarian started a successful Friends of the Library Program. After retirement, she and her husband Bob moved to Del Webb in Summerville where she currently serves as the Library Coordinator.

Michael Miller
Board Member Nominee
Michael Miller is a Hanahan resident. After graduating from College of Charleston, he worked for the Navy, NAVFAC, and SPAWAR and retired in May 2016. He is both a library advocate and an avid reader whose interests span distant galaxies, dystopian worlds, alternate histories, and 20th Century literature. He and his wife Linda have one daughter.
