Getting a Card

Your library card is free if you are a:

  • Berkeley County resident
  • Dorchester County resident
  • Berkeley County school teacher (public or private)
  • Berkeley County property or business owner
  • US Active Duty military member/dependent

If you are not eligible for a free card, you may purchase a renewable one-year library membership for $30.00.

If you are temporarily residing in Berkeley County for six months or less, you may purchase a temporary membership for $15.00.

If you prefer not to have a library membership but want to use our computers, “computer use only” cards are available for $2.00.

Public Computers

We provide public computers with Microsoft Office software, Internet access and online information databases.

  • Black & White – $0.10 per page printed
  • Color – $0.25 per page printed

Checking Out

You may check out up to 30 items.  We loan most materials for 2 weeks.  DVDs & Videos are loaned for 1 week. MiFi30‘s are loaned for 30 days and have special requirements, please see your local library for full details.

Renewing Materials

Reserved items are not renewed.

  • Books and magazines – 2 renewals
  • Music CDs and audiobooks – NEW: 2 renewals (as long as no one is waiting)
  • DVDs & Videos – NEW: 2 renewals (as long as no one is waiting)
  • Family Literacy Kits – 1 renewal
  • BCLS Book Bundles for book clubs – 1 renewal
  • MiFi30 – No renewals at this time.

Reserving Materials

Ten (10) items may be reserved at one time.

Returning Materials

Returns items at any of the Berkeley County Library Systems locations.  Book drops are located outside each location for 24-hour returns.

Fines & Fees

  • Replacement for lost card – $2.00
  • Overdue fine – $0.10 per day per item

The library subscribes to several genealogy databasesAncestry.com Library Edition is available only on public computers.
