This program is designed to help children who are struggling with their reading skills, when compared to peers their age, by reading to a certified therapy dog. It encourages children to read by providing a non-judgmental listener and furry friend to read to.

Sessions are 20 minutes long and by appointment only. Please call the hosting library of your choice for more details.

Tiny Fingers: American Sign Language for Babies

Do you have a new baby or one on the way? Enjoy communicating with your hearing child as early as 6 months.  An educator from SC School of the Deaf and Blind will instruct you in basic signing for babies.  Empower your baby to be understood and bond further together.

Coding Workshops at the Daniel Island Library

Funded by the Lucy Boyle Memorial Fund (LBMF), the Daniel Island Library will host a six-week coding workshop and a one hour of code class led by Susie Starkman, the “Code Lady.” Starkman is a programming language enthusiast and founder of Code Surfers, LLC, which teaches coding to kids in an after school program.

App Development (Ages 8 -18), Tuesdays, Jan. 17th – Feb. 21st, 3:45 pm – 4:45 pm

Come learn game programming right on your smartphone! This 6-week workshop is for tweens and teens who want to build up some cool coding skills. Create real games
you can play with your friends! Space is limited for this multi-session course, so please register at the circulation desk of the Daniel Island Library.
